"you eat what you think"
We always want what we canít have. No sooner do we start a diet, then the first thoughts to fill our heads are "I canít have that", or, "when itís over Iíll be able to eat that again." Oddly enough, we think that in order to stick to our goal we need to focus on what we CANíT have instead of what we CAN have.
"You eat what you think" is a mantra that reminds us we always have a choice -we are free to choose what we eat. When you adopt this mantra, youíll find itís so much easier to approach your next meal thinking "I can have anything I want, but AT THIS MOMENT I CHOOSE to stay on my plan". Whatís most important in making this mind stretch work for you is to remember that it allows you freedom, but it doesnít mean "free-for-all."
No matter what plan you choose, at some point youíll be challenged, at a party, your favorite restaurant, or from stress or boredom. Where or when is irrelevant, because IT WILL HAPPEN. But if you CHOOSE to have something thatís NOT on your plan, thatís a CHOICE, not a CATASTROPHE. Donít descend into an endless downward spiral, thinking "I blew it, itís over, I always do this, Iíll start again next Monday". Thatís where most of us give up and tell ourselves weíve "fallen off" the plan and to continue is pointless.
If you CHOOSE to have something thatís not on your plan, itís not a major set back. Athletes have a piece of birthday cake and keep on training. Athletics for them is a way of life, and they certainly wonít let a small indulgence get in their way. Know that before you make that CHOICE, youíve agreed with yourself that it ends here and you will approach your next meal by making your new choice accordingly.
If most people having issues with their weight are honest with themselves, they know that their food wasnít the problem; their way of "thinking about the food" was. So get this mantra into your head. It appears simple, but it packs a powerful punch.
To help you achieve this mind stretch, you want to move towards learning and applying the three key principals of mypetfat: [1] consciousness [2] choice and [3] conditioning.
